Ric Remero from ABC 7 News reported that “Generations Y”, those born from 1982-1995 are demanding new home trends from builders. Each year 4 million Generation Y home buyers are in the market for a new home and what they want is different from what their parents wanted.

President of KB Home, Steve Ruffner says bigger yards and flexible living spaces is what the next boom of home buyers are looking for.  Instead of the older architecture designs that came with already designated living and formal dining rooms, Generation Y is looking for open spaces that can be transformed into any living space like a dining room, den, or even an extra bedroom. Kitchen islands are also in high demand.  Dottie Sweeney Paek from Pulte Homes says their study shows that the kitchen island is really the “nucleus of the home” where family members come together and where the center of the party takes place. Dottie also added in the new report that these next generations on home buyers are environmentally cautions and Pulte is meeting that demand with solar panels as an added option to their new homes for sale.

With 75 million Generation Y potential home buyers in the market, home builders cannot afford to ignore the needs of what could possibly be the next housing boom generation. What others had predickted two years ago, like CEO of New Homes Directory.com  Jim Adams, generation Y home buyers are using the web, blogs and social media sites like FaceBook and Twitter to do their home shopping says ABC reporter Ric.  The “New” new homes of today need to be flexible, spacious, technically advance, environmentally efficient AND online.
