The Periodic Table of SEO – Simple Science
To demystify the science of SEO, Search Engine Land created “The Periodic Table Of SEO Ranking Factors.” The theme here is reminding people that SEO is a good thing, and not a “dark art” or necessarily evil practice. Among the most common SEO myths is that SEO is what bad people do to lure unsuspecting visitors to their bad, bad websites. Nothing could be further from the truth. Conversely, it is a helpful activity that Google itself strongly recommends and stands by. Behold, the periodic table of SEO:
This table can be helpful to new and experienced SEO users alike. That’s because SEO can be confusing to both groups. For newbies, SEO can be confusing beyond measure, when details and unfamiliar terminology is thrown around. For experienced users, figuring out which new SEO path to follow can be just as perplexing.
The Periodic Table Of SEO is designed to visually present the most important things that can help you generate traffic from search engines. For your convenience, some terms used on the table are defined here:
“On The Page” factors: These are the things that you, the publisher, can control directly in your role as webmaster/administrator of a site.
“Off The Page” factors: These are things you can influence indirectly about how others can help or hinder your chances of search engine visibility.
“Violations”: These are practices to avoid, although many are common mistakes that publishers may not realize are bad practices.
“Blocked”: This is a new class of non-violations that can still be harmful to your search engine visibility.
The periodic table of SEO makes the “science” of SEO simpler than ever.
A big thanks to Search Engine Land, Column Five, and Third Door Media for sharing this with us all – very cool and super helpful. Thank you!!
