Embracing Social Media

In the era of modern technology, it can be easy for your business or company to fall behind those who appear more tech savvy. However, this doesn’t have to be the case, and there are numerous, simple ways in which you can embrace modern technology and achieve a highly positive result. One of the most important and powerful tools that modern technology has delivered is social media. Learning what social media is, and how to use it to your advantage, opens up a powerful new world of free advertising and direct communication with your clients.

While there are various types of social media, the basic concept is the same. Websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest all offer ways for individuals and businesses alike to share information with friends, relatives, strangers and potential customers. This information may be in the form of news or written information, photographs or images of your work, or links to valuable resources and useful information. It doesn’t have to end here, either – the beauty of social media is that it can be used, really, for anything you like.

One important aspect of starting out with social media is to choose the platform that will best suit you. For businesses, a Google+ page is a must, as this can help improve your search engine rankings and ensure that potential clients can find you online with ease. A Facebook page is also very worthwhile; this is incredibly easy to set up and lets you connect, in real time, to your clients. You can post news, videos, pictures and so much more. It’s also great for asking questions and inviting your clients to share their experiences. This helps to build a personal relationship between you and your clients, and also lets you gain some insight into what your clients feel is important.

Twitter can be used in similar ways that Facebook can, and indeed there are apps you can use to post through so that anything you write on Twitter also links to your Facebook account, thus expanding your audience and how many people can see your posts. Instagram and Pinterest are great options for posting lots of photos. You can have whole collections or ‘boards’ about a single home design.

When it comes to how frequently you should post, it really depends on how much you have to say! If clients find that you are posting low value content too frequently, they may alter their settings so that they can’t see your updates. However, it is important to post frequently enough that people remember who you are and what you do. Also of course, post any time you have exciting news you wish to share with your client base, such as a never been seen home design. Finally, make sure that you interact with your clients. If somebody responds to something you post, make sure you reply to your comment. If people contact you in public for information, provide them with a response. Make sure your clients know that you are using social media as an open form of communication, and the results will speak for themselves.
